F.A.Q’s
How Do I Book a Photoshoot?
It all begins with a Discovery Call. This quick chat is your chance to learn exactly how the process works, explore available dates, and go over all the logistics. It ensures everything is clear and effortless—so by the time your photoshoot arrives, you’ll feel confident, prepared, and excited for the experience.
A $250 booking fee secures your place in our diary. This includes your one-hour photoshoot and a two-hour design session where you’ll choose your favourite images to be crafted into heirloom artwork, printed on the world’s finest photographic products. Sessions are held within 10 minutes from Kyneton or I can come to you for a reasonable travel fee.

How long does the shoot take?
The photo shoot runs for around an hour, and we usually meet an hour before sunset to take advantage of the magic light.
What to Wear
For timeless images, we recommend avoiding logos and busy patterns, and keeping your outfit to just a few complementary colours. If more than one person is being photographed, it’s best when everyone’s outfits harmonise—imagine them all side by side in the finished artwork that will hang on your wall for years to come.
Donna will personally guide you in selecting outfits, makeup, and hair that suit the mood and style of your shoot. The goal is always authenticity—you should feel comfortable, confident, and true to your own style.

How do I prepare my horse?
For the best results, wash your horse the day before (or the morning of) your photoshoot, followed by a thorough groom and a brushed mane. Apply hoof gloss or colour for a clean finish—though avoid hoof oil, as it tends to attract dust. If you use a false tail at shows, it can enhance the overall look, and some clients also choose subtle horse makeup for the eyes and muzzle to achieve a polished, photoshoot ready finish.
Bring a well-presented halter—plain black or fine leather styles photograph beautifully—and use a shorter black or leather lead rope, as longer ones can distract from the image. If you’d like ridden portraits, don’t forget to bring along your riding gear too.
Can I get pictures riding my horse?
Due to the dangerous nature of horse riding and horse handling, all risk is at the owners/riders responsibility. Please remember if the photographer asks you to do something you're uncomfortable with, it is important to say so immediately, it is your responsibility for your own safety to do so.
Can my friend take photos during the shoot?
No, Phones and cameras are not permitted during your photoshoot. Failure to comply may result in the session being immediately cancelled. Achieving beautiful images relies on an expert understanding of light, backgrounds, and timing—introducing a phone or camera is not only disruptive but also deeply disrespectful to the creative process you’ve invested in.
What if the weather is terrible?
We’ll be in touch about a week before your shoot, and again on the morning of the session, to confirm conditions. Using real-time satellite weather tracking, we can plan around what’s coming. Light showers often create the most dramatic skies and soft, flattering light—so don’t be discouraged if the forecast isn’t perfect. If needed, we may adjust the timing slightly earlier or later to work around small rain patches and ensure the best possible outcome. If there is really bad weather rain, or high winds we will need to reschedule.
Cancellation policy.
When you book a photoshoot, the $250 session fee is non-refundable. Our studio operates on limited availability—often booking out months in advance—and last-minute cancellations mean we cannot easily re-fill your spot.
We understand that genuine emergencies do occur. However, if you need to reschedule more than twice, a new $250 booking fee will be required to secure another date. Please note that our busiest season runs from September through June, and with only one photoshoot scheduled per day, it can be very difficult to accommodate rescheduling, particularly on weekends.
